You probably know that December in Cabo San Lucas is for whale watching, and that May and June are the quiet slice between spring and summer, but how’s the weather and the water temperature? Should you bring your snorkel or your board? Should you bring a nice cashmere, or would it be too warm?

Cabo San Lucas Is Blessed With Almost Year-round Perfect Weather
Los Cabos has an arid climate. It’s fairly hot the 365 days of the year. It’s 43% shrubland, 33% ocean and sea, and 24% forest. It gets humid, but the high humidity doesn’t climb to uncomfortable levels. This is one of the best benefits of Cabo San Lucas: regardless of its warm temperature, it is always fresh and comfortable.
Cabo San Lucas weather is great almost year-round and the average rainfall is almost 1 inch, which is around 2 or 3 rainy days during the whole year. However, one of the best times to visit Cabo is from May to June. By these months the wintertime crowds have gone home and late summer/early fall storms have yet to hit. During these months you can enjoy the stunning scenery, great weather, and the relaxing environment that only Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo can offer you.xThese are also great months to go on a snorkeling excursion. July to September are surfing months, but can get quite humid with temperatures in the 90 degrees. If you love surfing or you want to learn, you can find beaches for all levels. From beginners to advanced, everybody has a space!
October and November are also nice months for a vacation, but the milder temperatures turn it into a pre-peak season. Begin your hotel search early if you want to score great deals. These are great months to enjoy high energy, fun, and parties!
For whale-watching, plan to visit Cabo San Lucas in December. You will be able to spot humpback whales or whale sharks between mid-December and March. December in Cabo San Lucas is colder, but you will be fine with just a sweater.

THE WATER TEMPERATURE IN CABO SAN LUCAS
The average sea temperature in Cabo San Lucas is around 77ºF. The water temperature stays uniform from January to June. It warms up in July and gets steadily warmer until September. It begins to cool again from October to December. A great way to plan your visit to Cabo San Lucas is to know how tolerant you are of cold water and what is your preference. Knowing the average sea temperature can help you book the perfect months for you.
The average water temperature is warmer than in the US’s Pacific coast, but still cold for some. Heavy wetsuits aren’t necessary, though it’s still more comfortable to put on a lightweight wetsuit. 3/2mm is ample. If you are visiting Cabo San Lucas in the coldest month, which is January, make sure to bring a wetsuit.
As you’ve probably read or been told by now, there are select swimmable beaches in Cabo San Lucas. The rest are for surfers and boat charters for fishing and whale watching. The ocean can change depending on the climate conditions, so it is always a good idea to check the weather forecast and weather data.
All beaches are flagged to inform what are safe beaches, even in San José del Cabo. A green flag means it is safe to swim and there are great conditions; a red flag means it isn’t safe to swim; and a black flag means it is prohibited to be on the beach and you need to abandon the perimeter.
How Is Cabo San Lucas In January, February, March?
If you want a sweet balance between party and fun, but also relaxation and calm, these are the ideal months! These months aren’t as crowded as others, so you can enjoy all the beautiful things that Cabo San Lucas has for you, but in a calmer environment.
THE WEATHER
The average temperature in January is around 78ºF. Rarely drops to 68ºF. February and March in Cabo have temperatures that gradually get hotter. February with highs at 80ºF, March at 82ºF, with spikes toward 89-90ºF, and rarely dropping below 73ºF.
Low temperatures for January and February are 53ºF to 59ºF. March is warmer at 62.6ºF to 69.8ºF
These are great months if you don’t like the warm weather in Cabo San Lucas and prefer colder environments. If you are sensitive to coldness, we recommend packing a light jacket for the night.
The sky stays mostly clear at 29%-32% cloud cover. Perfect for panoramic, horizon shots. You will find mostly blue skies and a lot of sunshine.
Humidity varies from comfortable to humid, but never very humid. The beginning of the year is nice if you don’t mind the high-season crowd of winter escapees and spring breakers, it’s neither too dry nor too muggy. There’s often a gentle or moderate breeze blowing.
WOULD IT RAIN?
Likely not, and if it does, it would be a light rain. The rain probability for each day is a negligible 2%, and the average rainfall is less than 1mm. Perfect months to enjoy the sun, but still have a comfortable fresh climate.
THE WATER
The water is flat, except for the Pacific Ocean, which has good swells for surfers. The Sea of Cortez side will be ideal for swimming or even snorkeling. Great for kids since most beaches will have calm water.
How Are April And May In Cabo San Lucas?
Cabo San Lucas in April is still crowded with the spring breakers, but the day is getting hotter and longer as the summer approaches, and the skies clearer. May is one of the shoulder months between spring and summer. If you are looking for parties, fun, and the high energy that only Cabo San Lucas can offer, these are the perfect months!
THE WEATHER
April and May are hotter than March at 84.2ºF to 87.8ºF with occasional spikes to 93.2ºF-96ºF. Cooler evenings come in at 64.4ºF to 70ºF.
Mild humidity three days out of four, with dry days interspersed. The south easterlies and the north easterlies clash over Cabo San Lucas in spring. Calm to moderate windiness. At night, it might get chilly, but not so much. You can pack a light sweater.
WOULD IT RAIN?
Nope. Not likely. April’s cloud cover is down to 22% and so is the chance of rain: the probability is only 1% and the average rainfall is less than 1mm. May sees even fewer clouds at 9% average cloud cover. The chance of rain is at 0.9%.

Surfing season starts in April and May when the spring break crowds are trickling out and the winds push the water for consistent swells. This is a great season to practice your skills on any of the beaches. As we mentioned, in Cabo San Lucas you can find beaches for all levels, from beginners to advanced surfers.
JUNE
Like May, June is an in-between month, often called the best month to visit Cabo San Lucas, with plenty of opportunities in paying less, and less of a crowd on the beach and in the water! This is a great month to relax and enjoy the beach without many people. Also, it is a great month to explore Cabo in a different way.

Cabo San Lucas in June it’s a toasty 91.4ºF, with occasional spikes to 98.6ºF. Daily lows average 73ºF to 82ºF.
The skies remain mostly clear at 10% cloud cover, gradually getting “cloudier” at 26% cloud cover in the middle of the month. The southeast wind is too meek, and the average wind speed is 15 km/h. It’s humid and sticky, but not heavy. If you enjoy the heat and want to experience the tropical weather in Cabo San Lucas, this is a great month.
WOULD IT RAIN?
Nope. The probability is still at 2% daily, gradually increasing to 3.2% toward the end of the month. You can enjoy a lot of sunshine and take incredible pictures all day.
THE WATER
Don’t be fooled by the mugginess of the day– the water is still on the side of cold, but a favorite of surfers for the beach break and pointbreak swells. June marks the start of the year’s best surf season. If you are comfortable with the cold, you will enjoy the beaches on the Sea of Cortez side. If not, but you still want to enjoy the beach, it might be a good idea to pack a wetsuit.
JULY
We are in the hottest days in Cabo San Lucas. You can still find great deals in July, but make sure to book with time. The beginning of July is great if you want fewer crowds and relaxation, and the end of July is great if you prefer more people, high energy, and a party!
THE WEATHER
July sizzles at a steady temperature of 93.2ºF, with spikes to 98.6ºF one day in ten. The heat owes itself in part to the cloud cover, now significantly increased to 51%. It’s still muggy and sticky like June, but still comfortable.
WOULD IT RAIN?
All this combined and the chance of rain is also higher at 8%. Unlike the previous months of the year, July sees moderate rain instead of light, with a 1% probability of a thunderstorm thrown in. It is the beginning of the rainy days, so make sure to check the weather forecast to know the conditions.
THE WATER
Water temperature climbs to a nice high 80ºF to low 70ºF. Test the water. If you need a spring suit, there are plenty of places you can get it from.
June, July, and August are Southern Baja’s best surf seasons. Expect decent waves. If you’re not a strong swimmer, stay on the calm and swimmable beaches located on the Sea of Cortez side. As we mentioned, you can know if the beach is safe by its flags. The Pacific Ocean side is not safe for swimming.
AUGUST
Cabo San Lucas in August is fairly warm, but more comfortable than July. It is a great month to enjoy the ocean, the parties, and the high energy.

July’s temperature is constant — August starts hot and gradually cools down throughout the day, though only by less than a degree, from around 93.2ºF to 91.4ºF.
The sky is overcast 24% of the time, with an average of 48-55% cloud cover, but humidity is more comfortable and more dry than humid. If you like the heat but with less humidity, this is the month for you.
WOULD IT RAIN?
The probability of rain is now at 15%. And if it rains, it’s most likely to be moderate rain, with a 2% chance for thunderstorms. July to September sees the most rain of the year. August is also part of the hurricane season in Cabo San Lucas, so the best is to check the weather forecast and make sure that it is safe to visit. Since it is hurricane season, you will find incredible deals in hotels.

Cabo’s average water temperature is at its warmest in August and September at 82-83ºF. August is the last of Southern Baja’s best surfing months (June, July, August). The waves would send a thrill to surfers’ hearts, but not to non-strong swimmers.
SEPTEMBER
THE WEATHER
September is hot, with a daily constant average of 91ºF, sometimes climbing to 96ºF, with low temperatures at 77ºF. The daily feel for the whole month is split evenly between warm and oh-god-we-need-air-conditioning. Look for spa deals inside the hotels, away from the heat.
September has mostly clear skies (48% partly cloudy) with the cloud cover decreasing throughout the month. Humidity is also a mainstay– the days are either muggy or very muggy.
WOULD IT RAIN?
On any given day, the probability of rain is now a constant 14%, with the chance for thunderstorms at 9%. This is the wettest month in Cabo San Lucas. September is also part of the hurricane season, and it is best to check the weather forecast to know if it is okay to travel. Again, since it is hurricane season, you will find incredible deals at hotels.

September’s water temperature in Cabo San Lucas is the warmest of the year at 83ºF and up. And if you’re going fishing, September has the most fish-biting! This is a great month to enjoy the ocean and relax. Also, it is the perfect month to explore the marine fauna with your snorkeling gear or to book a snorkeling tour.
OCTOBER
THE WEATHER
October’s temperature doesn’t vary much from September, but the temperature gradually goes down throughout the day and month by degrees. It can start very hot at 93ºF and end at 89ºF.
The sky is also clearer. Cloud cover remains at mostly clear percentages (27-39%). The mugginess of August and September is over. October is mostly comfortable, neither going dry nor very humid.
WOULD IT RAIN?
The start of the month has a 13% probability of rain, and it steadily goes down. The end of the month only has a 5% probability. The first week of October sees the most moderate rain, with drizzles and light rain occurring 1-3% of the time.
THE WATER
The water is mostly still warm at an average of 81ºF, but test it for cooling temperatures before going in! This is also another great month for fishing, snorkeling, or taking a snorkeling excursion.
NOVEMBER
THE WEATHER
November temperatures fall throughout the month. The first week of November sees daily highs at 89ºF, and this goes down to 87ºF, 84ºF, to 82.4ºF in the last week of the month. Daily lows progress to cooler and cooler nights at 69ºF to 64.4ºF.
The sky remains mostly clear throughout the month, but it can get muggy in the middle weeks.
WOULD IT RAIN?
The likelihood of rain on any November day is low at 3%. When it does rain, it’s either a light shower or moderate rainfall, most of it happening in the first week of the month.
THE WATER
The water temperature has gone down to 79ºF. Average fair waves make it great for beginner surfers.
December In Cabo San Lucas
The month of December in Cabo San Lucas is comfortable and a great month for whale watching.

CABO WEATHER IN DECEMBER
The weather in Cabo San Lucas in December goes between the daily low and high of 59ºF to 82ºF. The sky is unbelievably clear for December, especially dazzling if you come from an overcast winter. The sun rises around 7 a.m, and it goes down around 6 p.m, giving you almost 10 hours of sunshine.
December in Cabo San Lucas feels mostly dry, with some mildly humid days, but the whole month maintains a comfortable air, neither too dry nor too muggy. The average relative humidity is 85%.
WOULD IT RAIN?
Likely not. The first week of December in Cabo San Lucas only has a 1.8% probability of rain, and the last week has 2.5%. The middle weeks don’t fall below or rise above these percentages. When it does rain, it’s a light shower, most likely to happen around Christmas on December 22-24. Cabo weather in December doesn’t have cloudy days.
